Principal's Comments

Tina_Preskenis_PhotoSt. Catherine of Siena Elementary and Middle School provides educational excellence under the leadership of the pastor and in partnership with the parents and caretakers of our students, the administration, faculty and staff strive to provide a learning environment where Christian principles are taught by example as well as through daily instruction.

St. Catherine of Siena School is committed to educational excellence in the spiritual formation and intellectual development of its students.  St. Catherine's provides a strong academic curriculum that is further enriched by special subjects to provide strong student development spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.

Instruction in the Catholic faith, reading and reflection of Sacred Scripture, and prayer are the bases for helping young people to discover themselves as children of God and to develop habits of caring and respect for people and the community around them.  While the Mass and the Sacraments are at the center of our parish life, we help children discover that knowledge of Christ compels one to act on behalf of others who are in need.  As a result, community service opportunities provide our children with the experience of a lived Faith in Jesus Christ.

All efforts are made to limit class size as to allow the development of close-knit, caring relationships, and a sense of belonging.  Students learn and develop an awareness of local and world community needs which allow them to assume their responsibility as disciples of Jesus.

As Christian Educators, our teachers believe they have been given a trust which requires dedication, commitment, patience, peace, justice and love while recognizing also the dignity of each child entrusted to their care.  Our faculty strives to reach the needs of all learners allowing students to successfully reach their fullest potential.

Specialized programming including academic support and accelerated/gifted services provide children with the necessary skills and strategies needed to be successful independent learners and thinkers.  Providing children with individualized instruction produces increased self-esteem and provides the motivation needed so that they will be confidently prepared for tomorrow's future.

Results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) indicate that students in all Catholic Schools score higher than those in public schools. St. Catherine of Siena School consistently meets that challenge!  This year grades 2-8 were administered the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.  All classes performed above grade level.

At St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School, we love teaching and we work hard to provide the right resources and opportunities for children to learn and grow into the noble person God intends them to be.  It is a joy to see them develop wings and soar as they experience successes and become restored in hope.  If you value this for your child, we hope you would consider being a part of our family.

Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school. He is the unseen but ever present teacher in the classes. He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students.

Sincerely in Christ,

Christina Preskenis
